PSALM 47 STUDY - BY DARLENE ZSCHECH
This joyful Psalm is addressed to the chief musician... what an astounding privilege to be commissioned with so many of these sacred songs and prayers. Never forget, those of us who have dedicated our lives to the song of our God, that this is indeed, one of life’s greatest honours... to lead the song of the grand procession of the King of all Kings.
And as far as the sons of Korah go, well it just reminds me of the value placed on leading with skill and passion.
To the chief musician. A Psalm to the sons of Korah.
1. Oh, clap your hands all ye peoples! Shout to God with a voice of triumph!
2. For the Lord Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth.
3. He will subdue the peoples under us, and the nations under our feet.
4. He will choose our inheritance for us, the excellence of Jacob whom He loves. Selah
5. God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
6. Sing praises to our God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
7. For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with understanding.
8. God reigns over the nations; God sits on His Holy throne.
9. The princes of the people have gathered together, the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; He is greatly exalted.
(New King James Version)

Never forget, those of us who have dedicated our lives to the song of our God, that this is indeed, one of life's greatest honours... to lead the song of the grand procession of the King of all Kings.

To clap your hands, is one of the most natural and enthusiastic ways to express joy and even if we cannot speak the same language... this is one way where the people of the earth unite in this language of the hands. It's amazing that when you start to rejoice, how your hands need to join in the song!! How cool is that! The same can be said about the Shout!... this loud, joyous, universal sound of confidence at the triumph of our God. So many human languages... yet this shout, and these clapping hands unite us in the high praise of the King of all... such a great sight of universal faith in action. I love to shout praises to my God... and for many reasons. I love the thought that the atmosphere, however heavy, heavy and dominating... must bow down to the praise of my God. I love that the shout is often carrying the seeds of prophetic insight, as we shout out what we see in the spiritual, regardless of circumstance or prevailing emotional strongholds. I love that the shout requires us to be brave, and confident in the reality of Christ... for the shout never goes unnoticed... on earth or in heaven!!!
So if the shout of faith makes you uncomfortable... you had better get used to it!! There is such victory in the shout of the redeemed!!!
For the Lord God is ALMIGHTY... His power, none can resist... His power is quite unfathomable... as nothing, absolutely nothing is excluded from His dominion. The Message Bible puts it simply and beautifully... ’GOD MOST HIGH IS STUNNING!!!
And when verse 3 talks about the Lord subduing the people under us, that nations will be under our feet, you’ve always got to remember that whatever battle you may be facing...that the battle is ultimately His, not ours, but the Lords. He will take His own time... but will certainly achieve victory for His church!!!
The faithfulness of God continues to be seen as the word describes how the heart of God even resides over our inheritance... that He gave his ancient people their portion, and He will give us ours. The key is though, to seek first the kingdom of God... not chase riches or an earthly inheritance. You’ve got to let go and trust. As you submit your will, your choices, your desires, your thoughts wholly to Him... you’ll be amazed at where you find yourself.
GOD HAS GONE UP WITH A SHOUT the word declares... which we so know to be true. To exalt Him over all else. Faith hears the shout before it is even there!! God inhabits the praises of His people... Jesus entered earth’s domain amongst the greatest of heavenly music, Jesus will return amidst the great trumpet blast, HE IS our praise!! This is the shout of triumph, this is the shout of victory, this is the shout of splendour, and of majesty... this is a shout like no other!!!! Football stands full of raging fans have NO IDEA how grand a shout can be, compared to the Shout that accompanies our heavenly Father!!!
Then the song continues, as 5 times the entire earth is commanded to SING PRAISES!! He, our awesome God, is the absolute meaning of all Goodness, of the greatest news ever told... never let the music pause!!! He never ceases to be good, so we should never cease to be faithful!!
'FOR THERE IS AN EVERLASTING REASON FOR THANKSGIVING WHILE WE DWELL UNDER THE SHADOW OF SUCH A THRONE'... Spurgeon
Jehovah is not the God of the Jews alone, as was the thought in our Saviour's day, but He alone is the King over all the earth. His providential throne governs all events beneath the sky. We are instructed to continue the song of the Lord, as to sing it with great understanding. To bring a didactic Psalm... to bring sound and truthful praise unto our Lord... thoughtfully, not carelessly, with intelligence, and with a deep appreciation for the reason for the song. I believe that truthful worship comes from revelation...and you need to live in revelation of the word of God. Ask the Holy Spirit to quicken you... to show you how to bring a worthy offering.
The Psalm comes to a close reminding us that God... He reigns... over all the heavens, over all the earth, over all that moves and lives and breathes within any heavenly or earthly sphere... He is not nervous with all He sees... He is ever the same, from age to age, in power and in serenity, as He knows His own purposes will not be thwarted. Here is enough reason for a life spent on Holy song... and so we gather before Him. Continually, ceaselessly, wholeheartedly, all Kings bowing down before Him, with every shield, every expression of strength and leadership belonging to Him. Yes indeed, every shield belongs to Him. All principalities and powers must bow before Him, for in nature, in power, in character, in glory, there is none beside Him. And with that, I end this Psalm.
With all my love,
Darlene
